What is Short Backgammon?

Short Backgammon is a classic two-player board game played on a unique board divided into two halves. With a history spanning over 5,000 years, this game has roots in ancient civilizations, including evidence found in Iran dating back to 3000 BC and even in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The game combines strategy, logic, and a bit of luck, making it both accessible for beginners and challenging for seasoned players.

The game is played with a special board, 30 checkers (15 for each player in two different colors), and two dice. Players compete to move all their checkers around the board, into their "home," and off the board before their opponent does the same.

How to Play

1. Setup: Each player starts with 15 checkers placed on the board in a specific arrangement. The board is divided into 24 points, and players move their checkers in opposite directions.
2. Objective: Be the first to move all your checkers into your "home" and then remove them from the board.
3. Gameplay:
   • Players take turns rolling two dice to determine how many points their checkers can move.
   • Checkers move in one direction, from higher-numbered points to lower-numbered points.
   • A checker can only move to an open point (not occupied by two or more opposing checkers).
   • If a player rolls a double (the same number on both dice), they get to move four times the number rolled.
4. Bearing Off: Once all your checkers are in your home, you can start removing them from the board based on dice rolls.
5. Winning: The first player to remove all their checkers from the board wins the game.
